Arnold Edgar Norgart was born February 1, 1920
in Glasston, North Dakota. He was the son of Haldorf and Luella
Littlejohn Norgart. Arnold graduated from the 8th grade in Hensel,
North Dakota.
On April 27, 1942, Arnold joined the United States Army. He was
wounded in battle of Normandy in August of 1944 and received a medical
discharge on May 10, 1945. Arnold received a Purple Heart, 2 Bronze
Stars, and was a recipient of the European Campaign Medal. He was
a Sergeant at the time of his medical discharge, and was a lifetime
member of DAV.
On February 13, 1946, Arnold was united in marriage
to Lois Pegg in Cavalier, North Dakota. Arnold farmed in North Dakota
until 1960. He ran a gas station in Grand Forks before moving to
Warren, Minnesota where he ran a gas station until 1963. He ran
Bulk Service in Warren until 1971. At that time, Arnold moved to
Jefferson, Iowa and was an independent truck driver until his retirement
in the fall of 1995.
Arnold had been a 4-H Club leader in Marshall
County, MN. His hobbies consisted of training horses and showing
horses at horse shows. He participated in saddle clubs, and was
involved in organizing square dancing on horses. Spending time with
his grandchildren was also a special time for Arnold.
During the last few years, Arnold struggled with
respiratory ailments until his death on December 28, 2003 at the
Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, Iowa. He was 83 years of
age.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother
Harold, and 2 sisters: Mabel Moen and Esther Norgart.
Surviving is his wife, Lois of Jefferson, IA; 4
sons: Arnold Jr (Sonny) and his wife Mary of Jefferson, IA; Allan
and his wife Jean of Lawrenceville, GA; Glenn and his wife Connie
of Ankeny, IA; and Leroy of Jefferson, IA; grandchildren: Pearl,
Marie, James Patrick, Ryan, Eugene, Tina, Billy, Nikki, Rachel,
Dustin, Bobby, Allan, Justin, Ray, and Barbie; Great-grandchildren:
Lisa, Victoria, Crystal, Justice, Marshall, Jeff, Kevin, Jessica,
and Anna; two brothers: Elmer and his wife Goodrun of Perry, IA
and Leonard of International Falls, MN; 2 sisters: Dorothy Morden
and her husband George and Bonnie Ouhl and her husband Stan, all
of Cavalier, North Dakota; other relatives and friends.
