Services: 11:00 am Monday December 8, 2003 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson. Cremation will follow the service. Interment of cremains at a later date at Junction Twp. Cemetery, Grand Junction, Iowa
Visitation after 12 noon Sunday, and with the family from 5:00 - 7:00pm Sunday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson.

Nina Rosella Coffin Nelson was born June 10, 1922 at Burnside, Iowa. She was the daughter of James and Jesse Belle Mintun Coffin.

Nina attended school at Stanhope and Gowrie, graduating from Gowrie High School in 1942. She attended beauty school in Fort Dodge, then worked as a beautician in Jefferson.

On March 14, 1947, Nina was united in marriage to John Allen Nelson at Nina’s home in Gowrie. Nina and John lived in Jefferson for three years, then moved to Grand Junction where they have lived ever since.

Nina had a beauty shop in her home for a few years. She was a homemaker and mother of four children. She helped with John’s insurance business, and traveled the state of Iowa selling open house merchandise to banks.

Nina was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and had been a Cub Scout den mother. Nina enjoyed hand crafts. She crocheted bed spreads and baby blankets for all the grandchildren. Nina enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona.

Nina R. Nelson died December 4, 2003 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She was 81 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant sister, Pauline; and a sister, Vivian Hansen.

Survivors include husband John of Grand Junction, IA; 2 daughters: Rose Zimmerle and her husband Bill of Aberdeen, SD, and Carol Gower and her husband Richard of Lake City, IA; 2 sons: Bill Nelson and his wife Diane of Shannon, IL, and Jim Nelson and his wife Deborah of Jefferson, IA; 2 brothers: Varlin Coffin and his wife Minnie, and Dale Coffin and his wife Beverly, all of Mesa, AZ; 10 grandchildren: Shawn Nelson, Nicole Nelson, Dawn Dungan , Bill Zimmerle Jr and his wife Carrie, April Geisler and her husband Kirk, Michael Nelson, Rob Gower and his wife Tara, Tom Gower, Andy Gower, and Kelly Gower; and 3 great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Justin, and Jordon Geisler. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and the Salvation Army.
