Nora Rice was born December 10, 1902 in Greene
County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Rinehardt R. Imler and Charlotte
Nora Miller Imler.
Nora grew on a farm southwest of Rippey , and after
her marriage to Clarence Clyde Rice, they live on the same farm
until early in 1964. During that time, Nora was active in 4-H and
did volunteer work at the Jefferson Hospital. She was a longtime
member of the KYNB (Know Your Neighbor Better) Circle in Rippey.
The farm was sold in 1964 and Nora and Clarence
moved to Sportsman Park located east of Dawson where they worked
as Park Custodians.
When Clarence died in August of 1977, Nora moved
to Boone and obtained a job as receptionist at Red Rock Area Community
Actions. She held this job until approximately 1995, when she was
93 years of age.
Nora Rice died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at
the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone where she had lived since
June of this year. Preceding her in death were her parents; one
daughter: Dorothy Cunningham; 5 brothers: Ralph, Dave, Preston,
Irving, and Galen; and 4 sisters: Vera, Lottie, Mary, and Ruth.
Surviving is one son: Dwight Rice and his wife
Mary of Loudon, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
