Wilbur Christian Robertson was born May 12, 1912
in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of Fred Christian Robertson and
Leota Shriver Robertson.
Wilbur graduated from Churdan High School and attended one year
of college in Omaha. He married Gladys Lucille Fogle on July 13,
1933.
Wilbur and his wife lived in Jefferson, and Wilbur was in the
livestock trucking business. In 1940, the family moved to Bayard
and Wilbur began farming. He raised registered Angus cattle and
registered Quarter Horses.
In 1953, the Robertson family hosted the Farm Progress Show on
their farm southeast of Bayard.
Wilbur served on the senior citizens housing committee and was
a member of the Bayard Lions Club and the Methodist Church. He was
past president of the 4-county Angus Association, served on the
board of directors for the Iowa State Angus Association, and was
a lifetime member of the American Angus Association. He was also
a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Wilbur enjoyed raising and showing cattle and horses. Additionally,
he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Wilbur died November 20, 2003 at the Bayard Nursing and Rehab
Center. He was 91 years of age. Preceding him in death were his
parents; his wife; a son, Dennis Lee Robertson; and a brother, Donald
Robertson.
Surviving are son Dean Robertson and his wife Sandra of Bayard,
Iowa; a daughter, Jerilynn Denman of Urbandale, Iowa; 4 grandchildren:
Curtis Robertson of San Diego, CA; Lori Hilgenberg and her husband,
Steve, of Bayard, IA; Jason Robertson and his wife, Shalon, of Dakota
Dunes, SD; and Chad Lucht and his wife, Melody, of Des Moines, IA;
9 great-grandchildren: Stephanie Hilgenberg, Cameron Hilgenberg,
Taylor Hilgenberg, Paiton Robertson, Sydney Robertson, Keyan McNear,
Christian Lucht, Caitlyn Lucht, and Caleb Lucht, and Wilbur’s
special friend, Rae Young of Bayard, IA, other relatives and friends.
