Funeral services for Betty Kelly Sanford, 84, of Las Vegas, Nevada,
former resident of Jamaica, Iowa, will be at 10:00 am Monday,
September 27, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jamaica, Iowa.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greene County,
Iowa.
Visitation will be from 9:00am-9:00pm on Sunday at Slininger-Rossow
Funeral Home in Jefferson. A rosary will be held at 7:00pm with
family visitation to follow until 9:00pm.
Julia Elizabeth “Betty” Kelly Sanford, daughter of
Martin and Nora Garland O’Malley, was born on December 15,
1919 in Perry, Iowa. Due to the death of her parents when she
was very young, Betty was raised in Jamaica, Iowa by her grandparents.
Her early schooling took place in Jamaica and she was a high school
graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Des Moines, Iowa.
Betty married Robert Kelly at St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Jamaica. They became the parents of three sons, John Robert, George
Patrick and Richard Francis. The couple spent their married life
in the Jamaica area. Betty was a housewife and worked part-time
at the Jamaica Post Office. She helped Bob with his feed and produce
store. Bob died in 1969.
Betty attended and graduated from Licensed Practical Nursing
School in Omaha, Nebraska. She later worked for the University
of Nebraska Medical Center. She married Sandy Sanford in Omaha,
Nebraska. The couple lived in Denver, Colorado, Kansas City, Missouri
and Las Vegas, Nevada. Betty worked as a nurse in different facilities
in these cities. Sandy died in 1992. She remained in Las Vegas
until her death.
Betty’s memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Jamaica and the American Legion Auxiliary in Jamaica.
Betty Kelly Sanford died September 22, 2004 at Sunrise Hospital
and Medical Center, Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 84 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, Robert
Kelly in 1969 and Sandy Sanford in 1992 one son, John Robert Kelly
in 1980 and 3 brothers.
Surviving are 2 sons, George Kelly of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands
and Richard Kelly of Omaha, Nebraska; and 1 brother, Charles O’Malley
of New York City, New York.
