Date of Death: October 9, 2004 Funeral services for Doris Johnson, 86, of Jefferson, will be 11:00am Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Burial will be at the Junction Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 1:00pm Tuesday. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00pm Tuesday.
Doris Jeanette Mannes Johnson was born July 24, 1918 at Leland, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sivert John Mannes and Anna Marie Pahmiyer Mannes. Doris was united in marriage to Ervin J. Johnson on September 15, 1935. They became the parents of four children. Doris and her husband lived in several communities in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota, before moving to Grand Junction where she lived for 18 years. She worked as a machine operator at Franklin Manufacturing, retiring in 1980. In 1983 Doris moved to Jefferson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and she also belonged to Vocational Club. Doris liked to do plastic-canvas needle work, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed reading. Doris Johnson died October 9, 2004 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit. She was 86 year of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband who died in 1983; three brothers: Alfred, Ernest and Irvin; three sisters: Judith Block, Alma Helland, and Esther Koch; a half-sister, Amelia Newberry; and a granddaughter, Susan Diane Johnson. Survivors include three sons: James and his wife Ilene of Urbandale; Jon and his wife Cae of Surprise, AZ; Dennis and his wife Verna of Sun City, AZ; one daughter: Janice Haugland and her husband Marvin of Crystal Lake, IA; 8 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Jean Pearson and Ruth Fosnaugh; other relatives and friends. |
