Duane Rice
Funeral services for Duane Rice, 50, of Jefferson,
will be 10:30am Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.
Interment will be at the Jefferson Cemetery.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home
in Jefferson between 9:00 am – 9:00 pm Monday. The family
will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 6:30 –
8:30pm Monday.
Duane Allan Rice was born April 7, 1954 to Glen
and Gladys (Deardorff) Rice at the Greene County Hospital, Jefferson,
Iowa. He was raised on a farm northwest of Jefferson in Greene County,
where he resided for 47 years. In 2001 he moved to his present home.
Duane attended Jefferson Community Schools and
graduated with the class of 1973. He married Sheryl Fiscus on April
21, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Churdan, Iowa. They celebrated
their 25th wedding anniversary this year.
Duane farmed in Greene County until the time of
his death. He was employed for Star Carriers Inc. and Carhill Inc.,
delivering mail to the local surrounding towns. Duane was also a
Bristol Township Trustee.
Duane Rice died suddenly August 13, 2004. He was
50 years of age. He leaves his wife Sheryl, daughter Emily and her
special friend Tim Rhoades, and son Brian to treasure his memories.
Also surviving are Duane’s mother, Gladys Rice, and siblings
Barbara (Bob) Tilley, Glenda (Warder) Hillhouse, Wayne (Kathy) Rice,
Darwin (Diane) Rice all of Jefferson, Linda (Jim) Collins of Ankeny
and Beverly (Tracy) Olson from Willmar, Minnesota. His parents-in-law
are Marjorie and Dwayne Fiscus of Churdan. Duane’s father,
Glen Rice, preceded him in death in 1985.
