Evelyn M. Eldridge, 97, of Jefferson, formerly
of Grand Junction. Date of Death: May 10, 2004
Funeral services for Evelyn Eldridge, 97, of Jefferson,
formerly of Grand Junction, will be 10:30am Friday at First United
Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Interment will be at the Junction
Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home
in Grand Junction after 12 noon Thursday. The family will be present
at the funeral home to greet friends between 7:00 – 9:00pm
Thursday.

Evelyn Mary Eldridge was born March 16, 1907 in
Blockton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frederick Robert Hubbard
and Annie Elizabeth Moritz Hubbard.
Evelyn graduated from Blockton High School in
1925. She continued her schooling and received a teaching certificate.
She taught school for three years.
On September 4, 1929, Evelyn married Leslie Arthur
Eldridge at Bedford, Iowa. They lived in Madison County and farmed
until 1937, then moved to Greene County and farmed until 1953. They
lived in Keytesville, Missouri from 1953 – 1959, then returned
to Greene County.
Evelyn was a member of the Grand Junction Methodist
Church and charter member of the United Methodist Women. She belonged
to Elder-bridge, and other various clubs.
For many years, Evelyn baked breads and pastries
at Schaal’s Truck Stop on Highway 30. Years before, she had
worked for Bill Schoppe on the court house square.
After retirement, Evelyn and her husband took many
trips across the United States by Gray Hound Bus. Evelyn did a lot
of quilting and crocheting. She was an avid reader, and especially
enjoyed western novels.
Evelyn Eldridge died May 10, 2004 at the Jefferson
Manor. She was 97 years of age. She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband who died in 1979; a daughter, Kathleen Eldridge
who died in 1990, 1 sister and 4 brothers.
Evelyn is survived by 2 sons: Loren Eldridge of
Waukee, IA and Gerald Eldridge of Grand Junction, IA; a daughter,
Frances Fenimore of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;
1 great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
