Floyd Dobson, 79, of Wellman, Iowa; formerly of Grand Junction,
Iowa.
Date of Death: July 16, 2004
Floyd E. Dobson passed away on Friday, July 16, 2004 at Mercy
Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday,
July 20, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction,
Iowa, with burial in the Junction Township Cemetery.
Floyd was born on October 30, 1924 in Carroll, Iowa, the son
of Charlie and Lora (Sapp) Dobson. Floyd left high school in Grand
Junction to enlist in the US Navy in October 1942. He saw action
in the Pacific as a signalman on the USS YMS-8. Upon returning
to Grand Junction in 1946, he married Florence Henderson and began
a career with the Standard Oil Company, retiring in 1979.
Floyd and Florence retired to Wellman, Iowa where Floyd continued
to pursue his hobbies of gardening, hunting, fishing, and beekeeping.
Floyd was a member of the American Legion for 58 years, Eastern
Iowa Beekeepers Association, South Eastern Iowa Beekeepers Association
and the Iowa Honey Producers.
Survivors include his wife Florence Dobson of Wellman; a daughter
Gloria Boyse and husband John of Wellman; a son Richard Dobson
and wife Jane of Gainesville, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren;
two sisters: Florence Ure of Jefferson, IA and Irene Reed of Boone,
IA; and one brother, Wayne Dobson of Gowrie, IA. Floyd was preceded
in death by his parents; a daughter, Deanne; and a brother, Carl.
Memorial contributions may be made in Floyd Dobson’s name,
and sent to Florence Dobson, for a planned park memorial.
