Services for Faye Thompson, 87, of Grand Junction will be 10:30am
Saturday at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction. Interment
will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction.
Friends may pay their respects to Faye at St. Brigid Catholic
Church after 2:00pm Friday. Also, Friday at St. Brigid Catholic
Church, there will be a 7:00pm Vigil For the Deceased, followed
by visitation with the family.
Memorials in Faye’s name may be left at the church.
Faye Evelyn (Haworth) Thompson, daughter of Nathan and Eva Haworth,
was born March 28, 1917, on a farm near Castana, Iowa. She attended
school in Mapleton, Iowa. After high school Faye worked at the
Bupane Gas Company in Mapleton and then became Deputy County Auditor
in Onawa, Iowa.
On February 16, 1942, Faye married Jack R. Thompson. To this
union were born ten children. Faye and Jack also raised Faye's
younger sister, Sally, following the death of her mother Eva.
The family moved to Grand Junction, Iowa, in 1954 and owned
and operated Clover Farm Grocery and then Foodland Grocery until
retirement in 1980. Faye was active in St. Brigid Church and Altar
Society, PTA, and El Carim Club. She was a Cub Scout den mother,
religious education teacher, Library Board trustee, Hospice respite
care giver, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. In 1976 Faye was
honored as an Iowa Merit Mother of the Year. Her church directory
was recently dedicated to her.
Faye E. Thompson of Grand Junction, Iowa, passed away December
1, 2004, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames, Iowa. She was 87 years
of age. Faye was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1983,
her parents, three brothers, Richard, Darrel, and Uhl, nephew
Nick Hodne, son-in-law, Steve Tiffany, and brother-in-law, Don
Thompson.
Survivors include her children Joan Tiffany, Grand Junction,
Iowa; Becky Thompson, Carroll, Iowa; Julie (Tom) Stinard, Ankeny,
Iowa; Jack (Jackie) Thompson, Alexandria, Virginia; Mike (Mary)
Thompson, Leawood, Kansas; Dan (Tina) Thompson, State College,
Pennsylvania; Doug (Roslin) Thompson, Sigourney, Iowa; Barbara
(Mark) Thompson, Fort Dodge, Iowa; Cathy (Stan) Curtis, Ames,
Iowa; and Susan (Bart) Dobson, Ames, Iowa. She is also survived
by her sister, Sally (Ron) Hodne, Manning, Iowa; sister-in-law,
Lucy Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa; twenty-nine grandchildren and
twenty-six great grandchildren.
