Gladys M. Blanshan

Date of Death:  November 25, 2004

Funeral services for Gladys M. Blanshan, 85, of Jefferson, will be 11:00am Monday at First Baptist Church in Jefferson. Interment will be at the Junction Township Cemetery.

Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson from 9am – 9pm Sunday where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00pm Sunday.

 

Gladys Mildred Blanshan, daughter of Henry and Emma Rueter, was born on February 18, 1919 in Wabash, Nebraska. As a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm in Grand Junction, Iowa. Gladys grew up on the family farm and attended Grand Junction Public School, where she graduated from high school.

Gladys married Harold Blanshan on April 20, 1941, in Grand Junction, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Grand Junction area until moving with their four children to a farm in Greenbrier Township in 1954. Gladys was a devoted wife and mother, helping her husband on the farm and raising their three sons and one daughter. Gladys was a devout Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Iowa.

Gladys Blanshan died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2004, at the Greene County Medical Center-Long Term Care Unit in Jefferson. She was 85 years of age. Preceding her in death were her husband Harold Blanshan in 2001, her parents Henry and Emma Rueter, one sister, Wilma Snook and one brother, Vernon Rueter.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Blanshan of Englewood, Colorado; Richard Blanshan and his wife, Mary, of Jefferson, Iowa; Eugene Blanshan and his wife, Sue Cosner of Panora, Iowa and one daughter, Donna Matzen and her husband, Clark, of LeMars, Iowa. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Michael Blanshan and Kristi Blanshan, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Erin Matzen of Des Moines, Iowa and Erik Matzen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and one great-grandchild, Quinn Arden Matzen of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Cecil Rueter and his wife, Dorothy, of Grand Junction, Iowa and one sister, Mildred Zenor of Des Moines, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
