Gary Burkett

Funeral services for Gary Burkett, 60, will be 10:30 am Wednesday November 17, 2004 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, IA. Interment Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction, IA.

Visitation starts at 8:00am on Tuesday with family present from 6:30-8:00pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

 

Gary Dean Burkett, son of Leland Burkett and Anna May Jeraldine (Jerri) Sifrit Burkett, was born December 30, 1943 in Jefferson, Iowa. He attended school in Dana, graduating from East Greene. Several years later, Gary attended and graduated from Des Moines Area Community College.

Gary married Deborah Ann Vermillion on July 4, 1967. They had three daughters and resided in the Greene county area. Gary and Deborah later divorced after 13 years of marriage.

Gary was employed for several years as Activity Director for the Boone County Work Activity Center, maintained his own sales company several years after that, and was most recently employed, until Sept. 2004, at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, IA.

Gary’s favorite past time was fishing along with a great love for the outdoors. He also enjoyed hunting, relaxing by the lake, and his “therapy” chair.

Gary died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at his home after a short battle with cancer. He maintained his wit and humor to the very end. We will miss him more than words will ever say.

Gary was preceded in death by his father in August, 2003.

Gary is survived by three daughters, Leigh Ann Gibbs and husband, Joe, of Boone, Kendra McConnell and husband, John, of Jefferson and Hallie Rice and husband, Jim, of Scranton; eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, Jacob, Alex, Dylan, Hannah, Morgan and Jarrett; his mother, Jerri Burkett, of Jefferson; his companion, Mary Buchman, of Gilbert; two bothers, Larry Burkett and wife, Mary, of Rippey and Mick Burkett and wife, Connie, of Grand Junction; 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 3 great nieces and 5 great nephews.
