Galen R. DeValois

Date of Death:  November 14, 2004

Graveside services for Galen R. DeValois, 71, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Jefferson, IA, will be 10:00am Monday November 22, 2004 at the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Iowa.

Visitation will be held Sunday November 21, 2004 from 1:00 - 4:00pm at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, IA.

 

Galen R. DeValois, 71, of Colorado Springs, CO, died suddenly Nov. 14 from an aneurysm.

Galen is survived by his wife, Nelva; daughters Debi DeValois, Hemet, CA; Linda Mesward, Colorado Springs, CO; and Karen Michaelson, South St. Paul, MN; a son, Dave DeValois, Polk City, IA; a stepson, Scott Van Zyl, Ankeny, IA; stepdaughters Jane Knight, Ft. Worth, TX; and Lisa Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger DeValois, Loveland, CO; Galen was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn DeValois.

Visitation was held Nov. 17 at Swan Law Funeral Home in Colorado Springs, CO. Funeral services were held Thursday Nov. 18 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs. Another visitation service will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Burial and a graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Jefferson Cemetery.

Galen married Marilyn Lyon Sept. 21, 1957.Galen lived in Iowa most of his life and worked more than 20 years as an Iowa State University Extension Service Director in Jefferson, IA. After retirement, he graduated from, worked at, and enjoyed Christian outreach at Christ For The Nations in Dallas, TX for 13 years. Galen moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 after falling in love with Nelva Van Zyl and marrying her on June 12, 2004.

Galen was active in his church and Christian outreach. He enjoyed walking with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, ping pong, and rooting for Iowa State athletics.

Memorial contributions can be directed to Grace Presbyterian Church, 2511 N. Logan Ave. in Colorado Springs, CO.
