Funeral
services for Jerry E. Hillman, 68, of Boone, Iowa will be held Thursday
June 3, 2004 at 2:00pm at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church,
Pilot Mound, Iowa. Interment will be in the Dawson Township Cemetery,
Greene County, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will start at 11:00
am Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa.
Family will be present to greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm
at the funeral home in Jefferson.
Jerry E. Hillman, the son of Elbert and Leone (Frantz)
Hillman, was born on August 17th, 1935 in Grand Junction, Iowa.
He attended school in Grand Junction.
After serving in the US Army in Germany, Jerry worked for Borden
Dairy in Ames. Following this, he became owner/operator of Hillman's
Amoco Service Station in Ames for 30 years.
On June 18, 1955, Jerry and Wilma Dagit of Paton
were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Paton, Iowa.
They became the parents of two children, Scott and Jacki. Jerry
and Wilma lived most of their married life in the Ames and Boone
areas. They moved to their current acreage north of Boone in 1994.
Jerry was a member of the Pilot Mound United Methodist
Church, where he served on the board of Trustees and the Rebuilding
Committee. He attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering,
Inc. in Mason City, where he graduated in 1993 with a certification
in Auctioneering. He served on the board of directors of the Iowa
Gasoline Dealer's Association, and was an active member of the American
Miniature Horse Association, the American Miniature Horse Registry,
and the Iowa Miniature Horse Club, where he had served as the Vice-President
for the past two years.
Jerry died on Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the Israel
Hospice House in Ames after a three year long courageous battle
with melanoma. He was 68 years of age. Preceding him in death were
his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Wilma of Boone
Iowa, one son Scott Hillman and his wife Karla of Parker, Colorado,
one daughter Jacki Driscoll and her husband David of Ankeny, 6 grandchildren,
and 1 great grandchild, two sisters, Janice Anderson and her husband
Gerald of Ogden, Iowa, Leita Barrick and her husband Jerry of Bondurant,
Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established in his name
and contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed to his
family.
