Norman “Stub” Rasmussen
Norman Russell Rasmussen, son of Carl and Maude Howell Rasmussen,
was born on October 3, 1925 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. The family moved
to the Jefferson area in 1941, where Norman graduated from Jefferson
High School. He earned the nickname “Stub” while playing
on the basketball team.
Norman married Mignon VanHorn on July 21, 1946. The couple farmed
in the Paton, Iowa area for 5 years, until moving to the family
farm north of Jefferson.
Farming and working with animals were his passion. He was one
of the first in Greene County to have a 12 row planter and a 4630
tractor. Raising cattle and hogs became a hobby through the years.
His greatest love in life was his family and he enjoyed watching
his grandchildren’s activities.
Norman R. “Stub” Rasmussen died December 22, 2004
at the Greene County Medical, following a long illness. He was
79 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents; three
infant siblings, two sisters Helga and Mary Ann and one brother,
Phillip and one great-grandson, Brandon Olsen.
Survivors include his wife, Mignon Rasmussen of Jefferson; daughter,
Carla (Steve), Haupert of Jefferson; 2 sons, Kevin (Jill), Rasmussen
of Jefferson and Keith Rasmussen of West Des Moines; 6 grandchildren,
Krista (Randy) Olsen of Evansville, Indiana; Shane Rasmussen of
Carmel, California; Nathan (Shelley) Haupert of Scranton; Bret
Haupert of Jefferson; Jacob and Tressa Rasmussen of Jefferson
and 2 great-grandchildren, Dillon and ReBecca Olsen of Evansville,
Indiana. Also surviving are his sister, Lillian (Virgil) Pedersen
of Dana, IA and 3 brothers, Jim (Hazel) Rasmussen of Jefferson;
Dale (Helen) Rasmussen of Omaha, Nebraska and Richard (Shirley)
Rasmussen of Lone Rock, Wisconsin; several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
