Ron Long
Funeral services for Ron Long, 69, of Jefferson will be at 10:30am
Friday August 27, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Jefferson. Interment
will be at the Scranton Township Cemetery, Scranton, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 9:00am-9:00pm on Thursday at Slininger-Rossow
Funeral Home in Jefferson. Family will be present from 6:00-8:00pm
Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Ron Long was born as Arlo Heddinger, son of Albert and Alice
Smoot Heddinger, on July 21, 1935 in Wesley, Iowa, Kossuth County.
At the age of 4, he was adopted by Rex and Marie Loomis Long of
Jefferson, Iowa and was named Ron Long.
During his elementary school years, Ron attended country school
at Jackson #1. He attended Jefferson High School, finishing his
education while in the service. He joined the United States Army
in June 1954, training at Fort Bliss, Texas and serving the remainder
of his tour at Fort Lewis, Washington. Ron was honorably discharged
in October 1956.
In 1959, Ron married Marilyn Bouchard in Grand Junction, Iowa
and to this union was born 3 sons, Mike, Doug and Steve. In 1967,
he married Dianna Howland Wright in Nashua, Iowa, and to this
union was born 2 children, Debbie and Dan. In 1993, Ron married
Karol Teeters in Jefferson, Iowa.
Through the years, Ron worked various jobs including construction,
electric line work and security. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Jefferson, in which he enjoyed his activities
and responsibilities. Ron also enjoyed spending time with his
family and pursuing his interests in canoeing, aviation and firearms.
Ron Long went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2004. He was
69 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers,
Alfred, Charlie and Floyd Heddinger and one sister, Viola Heddinger
Rigby.
Ron is survived by his wife, Karol, of Jefferson, IA; his children
and step-children: Mike and Doug Long of Grand Junction, IA; Steve
Long and his wife, Kim, of Perry, IA; Debbie Beddow and her husband,
Alan, of Jefferson, IA; Dan Long and his wife, Tina, of Greenfield,
IA; Dawn Wright of Des Moines, IA; Dean Teeters and his wife,
Kym, of Texas and Nici Whipple and her husband, Darwin, of Adel,
IA. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Jim McGee of California and
Donald Heddinger of Madrid, IA and 2 sisters, Patty Rasmussen
of Minnesota and Bonnie Brandt of Oskaloosa, IA; 6 grandchildren,
9 step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
