Funeral services for Virgil R. Kinnan, Sr., 87,
of Jefferson, Iowa will be at 10:00am Wednesday January 14, 2004,
at Slininger-Rossow Chapel in Jefferson, Iowa. Interment will be
at Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan, Iowa.
Visitation will start after 1:00pm on Monday January
12, 2004, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation
with the family will be from 6:30pm-8:30pm Tuesday evening January
13, 2004, at the funeral home.
Obituary of Virgil Ritchey Kinnan, Sr.
Virgil Ritchey Kinnan, son of Walter S. and Pearl
Ritchie Kinnan, was born in Greene County, Churdan, Iowa on January
18, 1916.
Virgil grew up on a farm near Churdan and attended
rural school in the Churdan area. After Virgil’s schooling,
he worked on the family farm for several years.
He entered the U.S. Army at Fort Des Moines, Iowa
on September 5, 1941. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably
discharged on December 20, 1944, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
After his discharge from the Army, Virgil came back to Greene County,
Iowa.
On November 15, 1946, Virgil married Gladys Virginia
Marsh at Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived most of their married
life in Jefferson and the Greene County area. Virgil did construction
work, mainly as a carpenter and also worked as a farmer for Raymond
Collins for about twenty years.
Virgil and Gladys wintered in Texas for many years,
while there he worked for the Garst Company and also built a house
with his son Terry. Virgil was a member of the VFW in Scranton,
Iowa.
On January 10, 2004, Virgil Kinnan passed away
at the Jefferson Manor. He was 87 years of age.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife,
Gladys, who died in 2000; four brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are four sons: Dennis Roush and his
wife Linda of Spring Hill, Kansas; Gary Kinnan and his wife Sharron
of Gardner, Kansas; Rich Kinnan and his wife Barb of Spring Hill,
Kansas; Terry Kinnan and his wife Sandy of Olathe, Kansas. Three
daughters: Sandy Case and her husband Jim of Jefferson, Iowa; Barb
Straight and her husband Doug of Ralston, Iowa; Connie Hoyle and
her husband Ron of Ralston, Iowa. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren,
27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and nieces and
nephews.
