Funeral services for Velma M. McGregor will be
11:00am Tuesday June 1, 2004 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson.
Interment will be at Paton Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home
after 1:00pm Monday. The family will be present at the funeral home
to greet friends from 6:30-8:00pm Monday.
Velma Magdaline McGregor was born June 3, 1906
at Paton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry Smith and Jennie Edith
Jones Smith.
Velma lived all her life in the Dana, Grand Junction,
and Jefferson areas. She graduated from Dana High School in 1924.
On January 22, 1927, she was married to D.L. McGregor.
Velma worked at Gately’s Variety Store,
Dick and Jim’s Hardware, and Finneseth’s Hallmark which
later became Walt’s Hallmark. She retired in 1986.
Velma was a member of First United Methodist Church
in Jefferson. She was proud to have been honored at the Dana High
School Alumni Banquets as the oldest alumnus.
Velma McGregor died May 27, 2004 at the Greene
County Medical Center. She was 97 years of age. Preceding her in
death were her parents; and two brothers: Leslie Smith and Vance
Smith.
Velma is survived by her only son, Dennis McGregor
and his wife, Monica of Jefferson, IA; a brother, Stanley Smith
and his wife Phyllis of Fort Dodge, IA; seven grandchildren: Mary,
Sheilah, David, Mark, Stuart, Bridget, and Alex; 6 great-grandchildren;
4 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
