Virgirene Ostrander

Memorial services will be 10:00am Thursday at Slininger-Rossow
Funeral Home in Jefferson, with burial of the cremains at the
Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation with the family is from 6:00 -8:00pm
Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Memorials are suggested to Homeward Hospice of Mary Greeley Medical
Center.
Ella Virgirene Ostrander was born June 12, 1920 on a farm near
Dallas Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of John Malone and Sarilla
Weber Malone. Virgirene was raised in the Dallas Center area and
attended school there. Following her graduation from Dallas Center
High School, Virgirene worked for several families in Dallas Center.
On June 12, 1939, Virgirene was united in marriage to William
Wayne Ostrander at Northwood, Iowa. During World War II, Virgirene
worked with her husband at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny.
Virgirene and Wayne became the parents of four children. Through
the years, the couple lived and farmed in several locations, including
Dallas Center, Booneville, Jamaica, Grand Junction, and Jefferson.
Virgirene loved to cook, can foods, grow flowers and work in
the garden. She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers.
Virgirene died June 28, 2004 at her home in rural Jefferson.
She was 84 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents;
two brothers: Frank and Patrick Malone, and a son-in-law, Darrell
Clark.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Jefferson; one daughter,
Deanna Clark of Moorland, IA; three sons: Dennis Ostrander and
his wife Diane of Jefferson, IA; Jerry Ostrander and his wife
Marlys of Jefferson, IA; and Kevin Ostrander and his wife Jacalyn
of Grand Junction, IA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
and two brothers: John Malone of Ankeny, IA and Dean Malone of
Dallas Center, IA.
