William A. Riehl

Long time Paton farmer, Bill Riehl, 76, died Sunday at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Jefferson, with interment at Mt Calvary Cemetery at Grand
Junction. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in
Jefferson after 12 noon Sunday, where there will be a 7:00pm Vigil
For The Deceased, followed by visitation with the family.
William Alois Riehl was born December 2, 1927 at the farm home
of his parents, John A. Riehl and Clara Martha Dittert Riehl.
Bill graduated from Paton High School in 1945. He farmed for several
years, and then was called to military duty during the Korean
War. He honorably served in the United States Army from November
13, 1950 to November 12, 1952.
Following the service, Bill returned to Paton, and resumed farming.
The family farm was recognized as a Century Farm in 2002.
Bill was an avid coin collector, bowler, fisherman, and cribbage
player. He was a life-long member of St. John Catholic Church
in Paton. He is a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand
Junction and also attended at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson.
Bill died suddenly at his farm home at the age of 76 years. Preceding
him in death were his parents, two brothers, Douglas Riehl and
John Riehl, and a sister, Betty Walk.
Survivors include 3 sisters: Margie (Robert) Ryan of Madison,
NJ; Darlene (Bill) Kassen of Dallas, TX; Mary Lou Webber of Elliot,
Maine; three brothers: Jim (Georgie) Riehl of Bettendorf, IA;
Richard (Kay) Riehl of Cedar Rapids, IA and Robert (Nancy) Riehl
of Ft. Dodge, IA; close companion, Mary Frances Davison of Des
Moines; 37 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bill was loved by all who knew him. Memorials are suggested to
the Diabetes Association.
