The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson.
Maude Darlene Melton was born July 20, 1922 at Scranton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Clinton Thompson and Grace Elsie Butler Thompson. Darlene graduated from Guthrie Center High School. She married John Melton on July 16, 1941. To this union, three children were born. John passed away in 1963. While Darlene’s children were in school, she worked at the Jefferson High School as a cook in the hot lunch program. Later, Darlene worked as a waitress at Truck Haven for over 24 years, retiring in 1995. Darlene was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson. She enjoyed crocheting. Darlene Melton died March 12, 2005 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Greene County Medical Center. She was 82 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Robert; and two brothers: Earl Halterman and Merle “Mike” Thompson. Survivors include one daughter, Judy Turner and her husband Larry of Jefferson, IA; one son John Melton and his wife Lorie of Taylor, Michigan; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. |
