Funeral services for Elden Hansen, 78, of Granger, Iowa will be 11:00 am Thursday December 22, 2005 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Granger, Iowa. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA.

Visitation will start at 9:00 am Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, Iowa; with family present Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm. Visitation in Granger will start at 9:00 am Thursday until the time of service at the church.

 

Elden Ernest Hansen, son of Adel and Iola Mae Dolder Hansen, was born on June 20, 1927 in Humboldt County, Iowa. His family moved to Jefferson in 1942 and he attended Jefferson High School. In 1947 he married Veva Kersey and they became the parents of three daughters; Kathy, Karen & Karel.

For a time, Elden worked at a Jefferson service station, sold insurance, and worked for the Jefferson Bee and Herald. He started working for the United States Postal Service in 1975 and retired in 1990. Elden and Veva lived in Jefferson for most of their lives together until they moved in 2001 to Granger, Iowa. They enjoyed their home and membership in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Prior to his declining health, Elden enjoyed fishing and hunting. He continued to enjoy his love of carpentry and woodworking throughout his life.

Elden Hansen died on December 19, 2005 at his home in Granger following a long illness. He was 78 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents, Adel Hansen and Iola Dolder Hansen Schilling, his twin brother Alvin Adel, and infant brother Darrell.

Elden is survived by his wife of 57 years, Veva, and their three daughters: Kathy and Steve Marsh of Madrid, Karen and Ken Steenhoek of Altoona, and Karel and John Obenauf of Carrollton, Texas, and one sister, Doreen Wilber and her husband, Paul (Skeeter) of Jefferson, IA. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Wade and Lisa Marsh, Matthew Marsh, Julie and Bruce Fridinger, Alicia and David Jacobs, Lisa Steenhoek, and John Obenauf Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law: Max, Darrell, and Donald Kersey.
