Funeral services for Elsie Monthei, 94, of Jefferson,
will be 6:30pm Sunday June 5, 2005 at First United
Methodist Church, Jefferson. Following the service
the family will visit with friends at the church
Fellowship Hall.
Interment will take place 10:00am Monday at Franklin Township
Cemetery. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45am
Monday.
Elsie Ogden, the eighth child of Fred and Sadie Agnes Woodbury
Ogden, was born in York, Nebraska on January 6, 1911. She moved
with her family to Iowa when she was two years old, and was an
Iowa resident the rest of her life.
She attended three rural schools, until she went into the sixth
grade of the Franklin Township Consolidated School in Cooper,
Iowa where she graduated in 1928.
Elsie married Roy Alden Monthei, September 12, 1931. To this
union three children were born: Robert Alan, Sally Ann, and Jane
Alice. The family lived on farms in the Cooper, Linden, Rippey
and Jefferson communities. After the children were gone from home,
Elsie worked for fourteen years in the Jefferson State Bank—now
Wells Fargo Bank.
At the time of her passing, she was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Jefferson, Iowa, having held previous memberships
in the Cooper and Rippey Methodist Churches. She took part in
the Church organizations, and in one Bridge Club.
Elsie Monthei died June 3, 2005 in Jefferson, Iowa. She was
94 years of age. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law
Robert and Marilyn Monthei of Jefferson; daughter Sally and husband
Harlow Grimes of Willernie, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Diane
Monthei Love and husband Gale; Randy Monthei and wife Virgene;
Roger Monthei and wife Stacey; Sherry Grimes Auge; Shelly Grimes
Williams and husband, Jeff; and Stacy Grimes Kaiser and husband
John.
Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren: Angela, Ryan, Zachary,
Jesse and McKayla Monthei; Joshua, Jacob and Jordan Williams;
Kier, Travis, and Sam Auge; Samantha and Joey Kaiser; 2 great-great-grandchildren:
Breanna Lea Williams and Anthony Jay Williams; a sister-in-law,
Mary Monthei Lindsey; and nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 1976; her
daughter Jane Alice at birth in 1944; her parents; two brothers:
Glen and Verne; and six sisters: Flora (who died in infancy),
Clara Morris, Grace Wadsworth, Sadie Crews, Mabel Francis and
Mearl Buihner.
