Evelyn S. Wenger

Evelyn Wenger, 88, died Sunday at the Greene County Medical
Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday May 25, 2005
at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, with interment at the Jefferson
Cemetery. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in
Jefferson after 12 noon Tuesday, where the family will be present
to greet friends between 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday.
Evelyn Sophie Hess, daughter of Robert and Matilda (Haase) Hess,
was born March 14, 1917 at Paton, Iowa. She was baptized June
5, 1921 by the pastor of the Evangelical Church in Paton, Iowa.
She was confirmed in 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Ogden,
Iowa.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Rueben Wenger on June 20, 1936
at Papillion, Nebraska. To this union, eight children were born.
Evelyn Wenger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
She died May 22, 2005 at the Greene County Medical Center at the
age of 88 years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben, on December
27, 1988; her parents, Robert and Matilda Hess; one brother, Melvin;
one grandson, Kevin Wenger; one daughter-in-law, Linda Wenger;
and one brother-in-law, Eldon Wenger.
Surviving are five sons: Larry and his wife Shirley of Beaver,
IA; Lee and his wife Diana of Winterset, IA; Jack and his wife
Linda of Norwalk, IA; John and his wife Karen of Hollister, MO;
and Douglas and his wife Karen of Paton, IA; three daughters:
JoAnn (Mrs. Norman Ritchhart) of Winterset, IA, Belva (Mrs. Gary
Hansen) of Bellevue, IA; and Teresa (Mrs. Kim O’Rourke)
of Waukee, IA; 24 grandchildren, many great and great-great-grandchildren;
three sisters: Irene (Mrs. Eldon Wenger) of Beaver, IA; Marjorie
(Mrs. Dean Smalley) of Jefferson, IA and Arlene (Mrs. Lloyd Robbins)
of Jefferson, IA.
