Gladys Joy

Date of death: January 18, 2005

Funeral services for Gladys Delores Yeager Joy, 93, formerly of Grand Junction, Iowa, will be 11:00am Saturday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment will be at the Junction Twp. Cemetery at Grand Junction.

Visitation at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, is from 9:00am Saturday until time of the service.

 

Gladys Delores Joy was born May 26, 1911 in Sioux City, Iowa to Olga Elizabeth (Nordstrom) and John George Yeager.

Gladys graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1929. In high school, she belonged to the Adelphia Club which was a literary sorority. After graduation, Gladys worked in Sioux City at a finance company and then was transferred to Des Moines, Iowa.

On May 1, 1936, Gladys married Hollis Hillman Joy in Des Moines. During WWII, she lived in California while her husband served in the south Pacific. When the war ended, they returned to Grand Junction, Iowa and lived with his parents. Gladys and Hollis moved to Des Moines where Hollis worked for the state of Iowa. Then they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Hollis worked for Schneider Electric Company. In 1959, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Hollis was employed by Collins. Gladys was a wife and homemaker.

Following her husband’s retirement in 1972, Gladys and her husband moved to Ankeny, where Hollis worked for the state of Iowa. Hollis died September 22, 1989 in Ankeny.

In December 2000, Gladys moved to Brainerd, MN where she had lived at Woodland Village.

Gladys Joy died January 18, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minnesota. She was 93 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, and two brothers: Vern Yeager and Jack Yeager.

Survivors include three daughters: Janet Novak and her husband Al of Brainerd, MN; Barbara Olson and her husband Jim of Burr Oak, IA; Diane Jolly and her husband Lynn of Cherokee, IA; 1 brother: Dick Yeager and his wife Iris of Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
