Funeral services for Grace Miller, 86, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 am Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, with interment at the Jefferson Cemetery.

Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 8:00am Wednesday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home between 6:00 -8:00pm Wednesday.

 

Grace Miller was born Nov. 30, 1918, to Roy and Gina O’Connell Steward at Junction Twp., Greene County, Iowa.

She was raised on a farm northeast of Grand Junction and graduated from Dana High School in 1936. Grace attended the American Institute of Business in downtown Des Moines. She held a clerical position at Woodward State Hospital in Woodward when she met fellow co-worker Leonard Miller of Minburn.

Grace and Leonard were married on July 1, 1940, at her parents’ home. They lived in California briefly before returning to Iowa to farm. They were the parents of a son, Larry.

In 1971, they established Miller Realty in Jefferson. The business eventually became Miller-Eggiman Realty. Grace was a licensed realtor. She worked in real estate until her retirement at age 80.

Grace was involved in church and community activities and served as a 4-H leader. She was a regular on ladies’ and couples’ nights at Lakeside Golf Course. An avid baker, her pies were named champion on several occasions in the Greene County Pork Producer’s bake with lard pie contest.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 1990, sister Geneva Boyd and brother, Charles Steward. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Lana Miller of Dana, two grandchildren, Malinda (Darrell) Geisler of Bondurant and Mike (Tracie) Miller of Dana, two great-grandchildren, Rachel (Brad) Miller of Bondurant and Jonathan Geisler of Bahrain, and a great-great-grandson.
