Harold Leslie Lehman was born July 14, 1919 on the family farm located on the west edge of Boone County, but with a Paton, Iowa address. He was the son of Jerome and Bertha Tourte Lehman. When Harold was 4 years old, his parents moved into Paton. Harold attended school in Paton and graduated from high school in 1936.

Harold’s parents moved back to the family farm in 1936 and Harold helped his dad with the farming operation. Harold enjoyed the carpenter trade and worked with Jacobson Carpenters from Boxholm for several seasons.

Harold was united in marriage to Maxine Shafer on November 25, 1943. They became the parents of three children: Ronald Leroy, Carol Janice, and Randall Eugene.

For many years, Harold taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class of the Evangelical and later the EUB Church. He would get up at 4:00AM to study his lesson for 2 hours, go out and do his morning chores, and he and his family were all to church on time. Harold held many offices in the Evangelical EUB and now the United Methodist Church. He was a steward, trustee, PPRC chairman of finance, and a member of the building committee for the new entrance to the United Methodist Church.

Harold enjoyed farming. Farrowing and raising pigs were his specialty. Harold retired in 1982. His sons, Ron and Randy took over the farming operation, but they always included their dad, and the three of them were together especially during the planting and harvesting seasons.

In 1984, Harold drew the plans for their new home and on September 21, 1984 Harold and Maxine moved into their new home in Paton. Harold and Maxine went on several bus trips. One of their trips was a 4-week trip into Canada and Alaska. The couple wintered in McAllen, Texas for 18 years, where Harold enjoyed playing pool with his friends.

Harold Lehman died May 7, 2005 at the Greene County Medical Center. He was 85 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother Vern Lehman, and a sister Viola Swanson.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Paton, IA; two sons: Ron and his wife Pat of Paton, IA and Randy and his wife Denise of Dana, IA; one daughter: Carol Hanson and her husband Kent of Battlefield, MO; one sister: Irma Beuerman of Kingman, AZ; 4 grandchildren: Jowell Hanson, Janell Hanson McIntyre, Nick Lehman and Lisa Lehman; one great-grandchild, Zoe McIntyre, and another great-grand child soon to arrive.
