Funeral services for Ione Dozier, 81, of Jefferson, Iowa will
be 10:00 AM Monday February 28, 2005 at the First United Methodist
Church in Jefferson. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery.
Visitation will start at 11:00 AM on Sunday at Slininger-Rossow
Funeral Home in Jefferson, with family visitation from 3:00-5:00
pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
Olive Ione Dozier, daughter of Albin and Olive Cooper Engleen,
was born October 15, 1923 in Boone County, Iowa. She attended
public school at Ogden/Beaver through the 11th grade and then
moved to Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1941.
On June 21, 1941 Ione and Donald Dozier were married at the
Central Christian Church parsonage in Jefferson. While in Jefferson,
Ione worked for the local theatre and for a mail order business.
During her husband’s military service, she worked for the
Civil Service in Seattle, Washington.
The couple farmed east of Ogden from 1950-1960. In 1960, Ione
and Donald moved to Ogden where Ione was employed as a bookkeeper
for Ogden Farm Supply until 1970. In 1970, she became employed
by Bergstrom Seed Company. Ione and Donald owned and operated
the Ogden Bowl from 1964-1972. The couple moved to Jefferson in
1989.
Ione was an active member of the Jefferson First United Methodist
Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, painting, playing cards, reading
and researching family history.
Ione Dozier died February 24, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical
Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 81 years of age. Preceding
her in death were her parents, Albin and Olive Engleen; husband,
Donald Dozier, in 1992; an infant daughter, Nancy Dozier; one
sister, Louise Morlan and one brother, Emmet Engleen.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Jan Miller and her husband,
Chris, of Galena, IL and Linda (Liz) Westberg and her husband,
Roger, of Boone, IA; 4 grandchildren, Todd Westberg of West Des
Moines, IA; Sean Miller and his wife, Amy, and Jody Lynam and
her husband, John, all of Highlands
Ranch, CO; and Bill Miller and his wife, Heather of Galena, IL
and 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Nathan Miller, children
of Sean and Amy Miller, of Highlands Ranch, CO.
Also surviving are in-laws, Jay Haupert and Bob and Marilyn
Monthei, all of Jefferson, IA; Jay and Mary Dozier of Cedar Rapids,
IA; and Claire and Pat Book of Panora, IA.
