Funeral services for Sione Fister, 86, of Jefferson will be 11:00 AM Saturday October 8, 2005 at the Scranton United Methodist Church.  Interment in the Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction, IA.

Visitation will start at 11:00 AM Friday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with family present to greet friends from 7:00-9:00 PM. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.



Sione Fister, daughter of James Lowel Burkett and Anna Pearl Schipper Burkett, was born on November 4, 1918 on the Burkett family farm in Junction Township, Greene County, Iowa. She was a graduate of Dana High School. After graduation Sione was employed as a domestic worker.

Sione was married to Roy S. Fister on January 23, 1940. The couple lived in the Spirit Lake area for several years and then moved back to Greene County, living north of Jefferson for a time. The couple lived on several different farms in the Greene County area. When they retired in 1975, they moved to Scranton, Iowa. In October 1991, Sione moved to Jefferson and in December 2000 she became a resident at the Long Term Care Unit at the Greene County Medical Center.

Sione was a longtime member of the Scranton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Her other memberships included the Scranton U-GO-I-GO Club and the Scranton Heartfelt Quilters.

Sione Fister died October 5, 2005 at the Long Term Care Unit at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She was 86 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Roy Fister, in 1987,

7 brothers and her son-in-law, Kenneth Johnston.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Johnston of Grand Junction, IA and Janis MacDonald and her husband, Stacy, of Scranton, IA; and 2 sons, Leslie Fister and his wife, Joyce, of Jefferson, IA and Donald Fister and his wife, Crispin, of Blue Grass, IA; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
