Alan Pound Alan Pound, 88, of Jefferson, died Tuesday morning at the Greene County Medical Center. Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson Wednesday April 26th from 9:00am – 9:00pm. The family will greet friends at the funeral home between 5:30pm – 8:30pm Wednesday, with a Masonic Service to be held at 6:30pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be private, per Mr. Pound’s request. Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Alan Willard Pound, son of Norva and Beatrice Cromwell Pound, was born at home on August 24, 1917. He grew up and attended school in Scranton, graduating with the class of 1935. Alan was united in marriage to Irene Starling on June 1, 1938 and to this union three children were born, Richard, Jane and Tim. Alan entered the United States Army on March 7, 1944. He served in India during World War II and was honorably discharged on January 17, 1946. Alan was involved in many activities during his lifetime. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion and a long time member of the V.F.W. He was a 15 ½ year member of the Scranton School Board; a Boy Scout leader and advisor for over 50 years. As a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Other memberships included the Golden Gate Masonic Lodge of Scranton, which later merged with the Morning Star Lodge # 159 A.F. & A.M. of Jefferson. Alan was baptized, confirmed and a member of the Central Christian Church. He taught Sunday school for many years. Alan was a road surfacing contractor for 65 years, retiring in 2000. He was past president of the Iowa Road Surfacers Association. Longtime Greene County resident, Alan W. Pound, 88, went to be with his creator on April 25, 2006. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Mignon; brother, Victor Pound; granddaughter, Meghan Pound; and great-granddaughter, Marina Alvarez. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Irene Pound of Jefferson; daughter, Jane Mozena of Urbandale, IA; and 2 sons, Richard (Karen) Pound and Tim (Sheilah) Pound, all of Jefferson, IA. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Mary (Carlos) Alvarez of Pearland, TX; Jill (Joe) Cory of West Des Moines, IA; Melinda (Ken) Gallagher of Jefferson, IA; Jennifer Mozena of Johnston, IA; Joy (Nick) Ward of Des Moines, IA; and Anna Lynn Pound of Jefferson, IA; and 9 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Austin Alvarez; Nic and Ellie Cory; Alison, Britton, Braden and Brenner Gallagher and Henry Olson. |
