Deloris Griffin Deloris Mae Griffin, daughter of Raymond O. and Edna Gainer Shorey, was born on December 28, 1927, in Jefferson, Iowa. Deloris was so small that her parents used her Dad’s shoe box for her to sleep in. She attended school in Jefferson and was employed cleaning business offices and homes. She was known as “Chic” to many people. Deloris married Fred Griffin on October 17, 1958 at the Presbyterian parsonage in Jefferson, Iowa. The couple moved to Spring Lake, North Carolina, where Fred was stationed with the United States Air Force. Deloris and Fred lived in several different states including two years and six months in Waipahu, Hawaii. Deloris received a letter from the housing director at the K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base stating that her home had won an award for being the cleanest home he had inspected in 39 years, no one had ever received this award from the Air Force. Deloris and Fred loved to travel to different states visiting old friends and sightseeing. She enjoyed fishing and flower gardening. She especially liked to attend air shows with her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Fred Rather. While in living in Hawaii, she got herself a brown miniature poodle, which she learned to groom herself, just as the professionals do. Deloris Griffin died July 5, 2006 at the Boone County Hospital, Boone, Iowa. She was 78 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant sister. Survivors include her husband, Fred Griffin of Ogden, Iowa; 3 sisters, Helen Rather and her husband, Fred, and Wilma Higgins, all of Boone, Iowa and JoAnn Kersey and her husband, Darrell of Ogden, Iowa; and brother, Raymond M. Shorey and his wife, Gertrude of Washington, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and friends. |
