Ellis Herrick
Ellis Lee Herrick, son of Orie Blane and Elsie Ruther Herrick, was born on October 6, 1938, in Ogden, IA. Ellis attended school in Grand Junction and graduated with the class of 1957. He farmed with his father, then later worked with Don Renslow at Texaco Service Station, and after that, ran Anderson’s Gas Station in Grand Junction. In 1962 Ellis married Willma Herum at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dana, IA. The couple spent their married life in Grand Junction. Ellis worked for YW Hybrids in Grand Junction for several years. He also worked at Moews Seed Company in Perry, IA. Ellis drove a grain truck for Keith Riley from 1984 – 2000, then semi-retired from trucking, due to health reasons. For the last two harvest seasons, he hauled grain for Pork Comer. Ellis was a past church officer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dana, past president of the Grand Junction Jaycees, and past Grand Junction City Council member. Currently, Ellis was a 42-year veteran of the Grand Junction Fire Department. He also belonged to an antique tractor club. Ellis Herrick died at his home March 1, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Johanna Herrick. Survivors include his wife, Willma Herrick of Grand Junction; a son, Ellis “Buddy” Herrick II and his wife Joell of West Des Moines, IA; 3 daughters: Linda Hoffman and her husband Marty; Lori Herrick, and LeRae Herrick and her husband Victor Kerr, all of Grand Junction; brother, Dwight Herrick and his wife Fran of Excelsior Springs, MO; and 5 grandchildren: Chelsie, Sydney and Halle Herrick and Adam and Heather Hoffman. |
