Hazel Geisler Funeral services for Hazel Geisler, 87, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson, with burial at 1:00 PM in St. Patrick Cemetery, Cedar Township, Greene County, Iowa. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with a 7:00 pm Parish Vigil Service, family visitation to follow until 9:00 pm. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Carroll Knights of Columbus KCIM radio rosary broadcast.
Hazel Agnes Geisler, daughter of Edward and Agnes (Maloy) Geisler, was born on June 27, 1918 in Bristol Township, Greene County, Iowa. She attended country school at Bristol #2 and completed eight grades in seven years and graduated as a Gold “I” scholar. She assisted her grandmother, Frances Maloy, before starting work in home and child care where she lived with families for extended periods of time. In some cases, these employment situations developed into lifelong friendships. In 1965, Hazel had a home built on an acreage on the west side of Farlin where she lived for 40 years. For many years Hazel operated a specialty sewing business from her home and she also did upholstery. Her sewing business included tailoring, draperies, dressmaking, and alterations. Hazel took great joy in the maintenance of her home and in earlier years raised a large garden and flowers. Hazel was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women, formerly known as St. Joseph Guild. Hazel Geisler died January 9, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. She was 87 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Edward Geisler, Jr., a sister, Lucille Kersey and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Kersey. Hazel’s survivors include her brother, Lawrence Geisler, of the rural Jefferson/Churdan area; 4 nieces and nephews and two additional generations of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary Geisler, of Churdan; cousin, Paul Nally, of Jefferson; several cousins in other locations; 4 nieces and 7 nephews. |
