Funeral services for Jane Ellen Holt, 87, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 am Friday June 23, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.  Cremation will follow the service, with interment at a later date in the Jefferson Cemetery.

Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 9:00 am Thursday.  The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Thursday.

Memorials in Jane’s name may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home.

Jane Ellen Davidson Holt died on June 19th, 2006. She was born on July 2, 1918, on her grandparent’s farm northwest of Jefferson and lived there until she was married.  Jane attended school in Jefferson and had the unique experience of having her mother, Miss Mabel, as her kindergarten teacher. 

After graduating high school in 1936, Jane attended Simpson College for one year where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. While working as a legal secretary, Jane met Russell Holt who had started working in the Jefferson State Bank. They were married December 9. 1939. Immediately after their first daughter, Nancy, was born, Russell received his draft notice. Jane and Nancy traveled with him for the next three years making 15 moves in one 10 month period. After the war, the family returned to Jefferson and had two more daughters, Julie and Penny.

Jane was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.  She sang in the Methodist Church Choir, and was the first woman elected to the Methodist Church Board of Trustees.  She served as an officer in Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1964, Regent of DAR, President of Culture Club and a member of PEO. Jane enjoyed time with Russell and the family as well as entertaining, traveling, playing bridge, sewing and handwork.

She was preceded in death, by her mother, Mabel (Williams) Davidson and her father, Arthur Davidson. She is survived by her husband, Russell Holt, one sister, Marilyn Muller of Mount Morris, IL; daughters Nancy (Tom) Hoffman of Milwaukee, WI; Julie (Jim) Murphy of Las Vegas, NV;  and Penny Holt of  Atlanta, GA; 5 grand children, Scott Hoffman, Beth Dabak, Brandon Murphy, Kelly Murphy, Jamie Murphy and 8 great grand children.
