Marvin W. Flack
Marvin attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the United States Army during World War II. His service time was spent in the South Pacific and Japan. He was honorably discharged on November 12, 1946. On August 24, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, Marvin married Beverly Anne Bryan. To this union four daughters were born, Susan, Karen, Barbara and Lisa. Upon returning from the service, Marvin learned the carpenter trade. Over a period of 30 years, he helped build many homes in Jefferson and the surrounding area. In 1952, the family moved to a farm south of Scranton. Marvin continued farming for twelve years. In 1964, the family moved to the town of Scranton, Iowa where Marvin became a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1988. In 1998, Marvin and Beverly moved to Jefferson. Marvin was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Scranton and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed reading western books, golfing, sports and playing cards, especially with life long friends, Frank and Shirley Drayer. Marvin Flack passed away Wednesday March 15, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. He was 81 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Margaret Bane. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Beverly Flack of Jefferson, IA; 4 daughters, Susan (Rob) Robison of Orange Park, FL; Karen (John) Lanzerotte of Carlinville, IL; Barbara (Dan) Horstmann of Sutherland, IA and Lisa (Sam) Olaby of Ankeny, IA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Tami Spagnolo, Ken Robison, Mark Robison, Kelly Kaganich, Chris Johnson, Allison Lanzerotte, Nick Horstmann, Matt Horstmann, Melissa Horstmann, Jessica Olaby, Sara Olaby and Lauren Olaby; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. |
