Funeral services for Ross Emley, 85, of Bagley, Iowa will be at 10:30 am Wednesday April 19, 2006 at the Church of Christ in Bagley, Iowa, with interment in Dodge Township Cemetery, Bagley, Iowa. Visitation will start at noon Tuesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Jefferson, with family present from 7:00-8:30 PM.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the family.

Ross Marvin Emley was born November 27, 1920 at Wisner, Nebraska. He was the son of Earl Emley and Mabel Humphrey Emley.

When Ross was a youngster, the family moved to the Bayard, Iowa area. Ross attended rural school, and then attended high school in Bayard. He graduated from high school at Cooper, Iowa in 1938.

Following graduation, Ross farmed with his father. On April 14, 1944, Ross entered the United States Army and served in the European Theater Paratrooper 82 Airborne.

On February 16, 1947, Ross was united in marriage to Jane Klinzman at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. The couple lived and farmed on a farm west of Bagley. Ross was manager of Federal North Iowa Grain Company in Bagley for many years. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources at Springbrook State Park as a Ranger. He retired in 1985.

Ross was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Bagley.  Through the years, he held many offices in the church.  Ross belonged to the American Legion, and was a past member of Odd Fellows Lodge.  In his earlier years, Ross had been a Cub Scout Leader and a volunteer fireman for the Bagley Fire Department.  In his retirement years, he became a regular patron of the Bagley Library.

Ross Emley died April 16, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. He was 85 years of age. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Howard, and an infant brother Calvin.

Survivors include his wife, Jane of Bagley, IA; three sons: Will Emley and his wife Pat of Slater, IA; Brent Emley of Des Moines, IA; and Bob R. Emley and his wife Luann Johnson of Des Moines, IA; a sister, Iola Whitver and her husband Don of Boone, IA; a sister-in-law, Zelma Dyer of Jefferson, IA; three grandsons: Troy Emley and his wife, Jordan; Eric Emley, and Alex Emley; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Elizabeth; other relatives and friends.
