William J. Cobb Memorial services for William J. Cobb, 94, of Jefferson, will be 11:30am Monday August 14, 2006 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with interment in the Jefferson Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Jefferson, IA; two sons: Jay of Jefferson, IA and John of Ft. Collins, CO; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. No visitation is scheduled. William Joseph Cobb, son of Martin Lemuel and Carrie Christian Daniels Cobb, was born July 19, 1912 at 207 South Oak, Jefferson, Iowa. Bill graduated from Jefferson High School in 1930 and then attended Simpson College, graduating with a B.S. degree in 1934. He worked two years with J.C. Penney Company in Lincoln, Nebraska, then returned to Jefferson and was a MONY Life Insurance Field Underwriter for over 50 years. On September 25, 1942, Bill was united in marriage with Helen M. Schick in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union were born three sons: Charles Martin, Jay David, and John William. Bill was a life long member of First United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Masonic Order and Eastern Star. As a boy, Bill played the piano for 30 minutes every day before his mother would let him go out to play. His father bought him the piano before they bought a car. Bill played the piano all of his life. In retirement, for over 30 years, Bill played the piano for several nursing homes in central Iowa every month. Bill’s other interest were Cribbage Club, fishing and gardening. Bill Cobb died at his home August 11, 2006 at the age of 94 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Charles, and a sister, Lillian Ardell Cobb Seela. Survivors include his wife, Helen Cobb of Jefferson, IA; two sons: Jay Cobb and his wife Sandy of Jefferson; John Cobb and his wife Jo of Ft. Collins, CO; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. |
