Graveside memorial services for Dorris M. Pirie, 86, of Jefferson, will be held 11:00 a.m. April 28, 2007 at the Jefferson Cemetery. Surviving is her husband, Ray Pirie, of Jefferson.

Dorris was born March 1, 1921 in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of James and Bessie (Dunham) Young.  She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939.

On November 9, 1940, Dorris married Ray (Swede) Pirie.  To this union, one son, Steve John Pirie was born.  The family moved to Glendale, CA.

Dorris worked at Glendale Memorial Hospital as a medical secretary for 18 years and retired in 1986.  Her life was centered on her son, Steve.  In 1994, Steve had just retired after 30 years from the Los Angeles Police Department.  He passed away from a brain aneurism and Dorris’ life was never quite the same.

Dorris and Ray moved back to Jefferson, Iowa in July 2001.  Dorris enjoyed 66 ½ years of married life in which she and Ray traveled extensively and spent the past 20 years of retirement life together.  If you saw Dorris, Ray was always close by.

Dorris Pirie died April 17, 2007 at the age of 86 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Ray; a niece, Sue Carter of Venus, TX; a nephew, Robert Young of Clovis, CA;  great-nieces: Ann Marie Yoder of Venus, TX and Lisa Young of Fresno, CA; and a great-nephew, Todd McWilliam of Tulsa, OK.
