Donald Louis Schuttler, son of Louise (Krieger) Schuttler and Louis Schuttler, was born on May 19th, 1929 on the family farm near Rippey. He joined his sister, Mary Lou, and was joined later by his brother, Norman.

Don started his farming career on the family farm in 1944, after his father’s untimely death from a stroke, and continued to farm this farm until he retired in 2000. Don graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1947, and he served in the Army (in Korea) between 1951 and 1953. In December of 1960 Don married Berniece Allene Tilley, and they had two sons, Gregory Louis, and Stephen Eugene.

In addition to farming the family farm that he grew up on, Don farmed several others in the Rippey / Grand Junction area. These included those of his uncles Louie, Henry, Walter, and Rudy Krieger. Don purchased one of his family’s Century Farms from his uncle, Walter Krieger, in 1976, and lived on this farm until health issues caused him to move to a Nursing Home in 2006. Don’s uncles were a very important part of his life.

When Don wasn’t busy farming, he enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars, and Allis-Chalmers tractors. He was a member of the Grand Junction Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Trustee, The Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and had been a member of the Tall Corn Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Don passed away on October 5, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife, Berniece, son, Steve, of Rippey, son, Greg, and granddaughters, Kimberly and Jennifer, of Lee’s Summit MO., sister, Mary Lou, of Rippey, and brother, Norman and his wife Carol, of Ralston NE.
