Eldon A. Ross was born at Lake City, Iowa hospital on May 7, 1928, the fourth child of John and Lulu Scroggin Ross.  Eldon lived on a farm near Rockwell City, and graduated from the Rockwell City High School in 1946.  He attended Simpson College at Indianola, Iowa, on a football scholarship, and was in the Class of 1950.  After fourteen years of owning and operating six cosmetology schools known as "Bernel's", he went back to school and graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, in 1972.  He lived and practiced chiropractic in Jefferson, Iowa from 1974 until his retirement in 1996.

Eldon had a hobby of woodworking and fixing things that were broken.  One of his greatest joys was to stand and admire a piece of furniture, all covered with wood holding clamps, in his woodworking shop.  That was the ultimate in woodworking.  He built kitchen cabinets, bookshelves, tables, chairs, and sewing machine tables for use in his and his childrens' homes.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, holding several offices in each.

Eldon married Shirley Brodersen on June 8, 1952 at Denison, Iowa. They had two children, Jon and Karen.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Dale.  He is survived by his wife Shirley; son Jon (Otgoo) of Sartell, MN; daughter Karen Milmont (Chris) of Cheyenne, WY; one sister, Jane Ross Miller of SC;  two grandsons, David (Tedi) and Jason Milmont; one granddaughter, Kristi Ross; and one great granddaughter, Aryona Milmont .

The family asks that memorials be given to Heifer Project International.  Eldon and his wife served as volunteers with Heifer Project for a three month period shortly after his retirement.
