Services for Genevieve Hasty were held 10:00am Friday, June 8, 2007 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Genevieve Mae Hunt was born May 10, 1922 on Great Grandfather Reid's farm south of Coon Rapids. She was the only child born to Opal Victoria Whalley Hunt and Albert Lee Hunt. The family lived on Great Grandfather Reid's farm until they moved a mile away to a bigger farm. The family attended a small country church, where the Pastor came from Audubon to preach. Genevieve was baptized there. The church was small but full on Sunday mornings.

Genevieve moved south of Bayard, where both Genevieve and her mother taught Sunday School and were very active in the Bagley Methodist Church. The family moved to Bayard in 1932 from a farm in Coon Rapids. Genevieve graduated from Bayard High School with the class of 1940, and then attended Business College in Omaha, Neb. She worked for the government in the tax department for 7 years in Des Moines. She then came home to Bagley and worked as a secretary for Gilliland's Implement Inc. where she met Earl Hasty.

Genevieve and Earl were married on Dec. 12, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Jefferson. In 1954 they moved to her parent’s farm south of Bagley where they lived and raised 3 children: James l. Hasty, Robert E. Hasty, and Rebecca S. Hasty.

Genevieve was a member of the Methodist Church and had many duties within the church. She was a Rebekah and belonged to Eastern Star as a worthy matron. She was also a member of the Bagley Garden Club.

Earl passed away on December 3, 2001. Genevieve remained on the farm surrounded by family and friends until her death. Genevieve died June 6, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 85 years. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Norma Jean; her parents; and her husband, Earl.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Hasty of Bagley, IA; and two sons: Robert Hasty and his wife Leisa of Stuart, IA and James Hasty and his wife Vickie of West Des Moines, IA. Genevieve’s grandchildren are: Jessica Hasty Frazey and her husband, Russ, Jennifer Hasty, Cody Hasty, Mason Hasty, Chris Erixon, and Carrie Erixon Bare and her husband Ryan; and great grandchildren: Zoey Hasty, Laynie Reeves, Andrew [AJ] Frazey, Beau Bare and baby on the way.
