Funeral services for Irene McNabb, 89, of Hiawatha, formerly of Jefferson, will be 10:30am Thursday March 1, 2007 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the Franklin Township Cemetery near Cooper, IA.

Irene was born May 16, 1917, and was adopted by George and Mary (Wilson) Niedermyer of Cooper, Iowa.  Irene lived most of her life in Greene County.  Over the years, Irene enjoyed cheering for all the Cooper kids as they played basketball in the Cooper gym.  The Cooper Methodist Church and the Jefferson Methodist Church were an important part of her life, as was participating in 4-H activities as an adult leader.  Irene loved to play Bridge. 

Irene was united in marriage to Emmett McNabb on November 18, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska.  Irene was a homemaker, and she worked as a nurse’s aid at the Greene County Medical Center for over 21 years.  When Irene and Emmett retired from their farm near Cooper, they moved into Jefferson.  Emmett died in 1989.  Several years ago, Irene moved to Cedar Rapids to be near her daughter.  Irene died February 24, 2007 at the Hiawatha Care Center, at the age of 89 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and a son-in-law Bill Heller.

Irene is survived by a daughter and son and their families:  daughter, Donna Heller of Cedar Rapids, IA and Donna’s family: Claudia Glasnovich of Marion, Illinois and her children Alex and Spencer; Sue and Dave Sperfslage of Central City, Iowa and their children Lucas and Logan; Jim and Diane Tolle of Philadelphia, PA and their children Megan Tolle, Rebecca Tolle, Jennifer Monser, and Michael Monser; son, Dick Clopton and his wife Pat of Florida and their family; other relatives and friends.
