Funeral services for Lyle Marshall, 82, of Jefferson, will be 1:00pm Thursday, March 1, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.  Burial will take place at Paton Township Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday March 7, 2007 with a graveside committal service at Paton Township Cemetery. Family and friends should meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am Wednesday.

Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 9:00am Wednesday.  There will be a Masonic Service at 6:00pm Wednesday, followed by visitation with the family from 6:30 – 8:30pm Wednesday, all at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson

Memorials are suggested to Webb House or Greene County Medical Center.

Lyle Carl Marshall, son of Carl and Angelia (Hess) Marshall, was born on Valentine’s Day, 1925 in Moulton, Iowa.  He passed away on February 25th, 2007 at the age of 82 years and 11 days.

Lyle graduated from Moulton High School in 1942.  He entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943 serving as a waist-gunner on a B-24 Bomber based out of England until 1945.  He was united in marriage on March 2, 1947 to Hellen Elaine Morey.   The couple began farming in 1947 at West Bend, before moving to Paton, Iowa in 1955, where the Marshall family farming operation continues today.  In addition, from 1973 to 1998 Lyle was owner and operator of Marshall’s Sales and Service in Paton.  Lyle and Hellen moved from the farm to Jefferson in 1984.

Lyle gave of his time to many community organizations including, The Greene County Beef Producers, Greene County Farm Bureau, Greene County Fair Board and served as a Director for the Community State Bank of Paton.  He was also active in the Masonic Lodge and a supportive member of the Methodist Church in both Paton and Jefferson.

One of Lyle’s greatest loves was his antique cars.  He was an active member of the Tall Corn Antique Car Club, was on the board of the National Buick Club of America for three years, and he was one of the founders of the Hawkeye Chapter Buick Club.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hellen of Jefferson, and four children.  Linda Evans (Steven) of Grimes, Dwight (Jenny) of Paton, Lynn (Kathy) of Dana and Sharon Fisher (Mike) of Dana.  Nine grandchildren Megan and Meredith Evans, Jonathan and Leanna Marshall, Adam, Andrew and Jared Marshall, and Eric and Lucas Fisher; and one great grandchild Erik Daniel Evans.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved granddaughter Rachel Ellen Fisher. Left to mourn his passing are his brothers and sisters Lowell of Adel, Letha Neely, Lorene Hoover and Loran Marshall all of Arizona. His many friends, family and antique car buddies will miss his laughter, his stories and his songs.
