Lowell R. Thompson
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with burial in the Junction Township Cemetery. The Rev. Duane Lundberg will officiate. A visitation will be held at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson on Wednesday, May 23 from 6-8 p.m. Lowell was born August 8, 1922 in Delta, Colo., the son of Johnnie and Ruth Rhodes Thompson. He attended school in Delta and worked there until entering the Navy in December 1943. He served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II and was discharged in March 1946. On October 6, 1946, he was united in marriage to Muriel Hazel Mack of Grand Junction, Iowa. They lived in Colorado where Lowell was a truck driver and ranch hand. In February 1949 they moved to Grand Junction and started farming. In 1976, Lowell and Muriel moved to a farm west of Panora where they continued to live until the fall of 2005. Lowell enjoyed western literature and movies, Oliver tractors, raising Polled Hereford cattle and socializing with family and neighbors. He was a stranger to no one and a friend to all. He was a 55-year member of the IOOF Lodges of Grand Junction and Guthrie Center and was also a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Farm Bureau and served on the Panora Co-op Elevator Board of Directors. He is survived by his wife, Muriel, and three children, Linda Thompson and friend Dennis Hobbs of Urbandale, Robert and Sue Thompson of Ames and Kent and Dodie Thompson of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren, Ryan and Robin Thompson of Ames; a sister, Molly Pfeiffer of Montrose, Colo.; and a niece, nephew, and cousins and their families of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents. |
