Services for Adelbert “Deb”, 96, of Jefferson will be 11:00 am Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with burial in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 am Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Survivors include his daughter: Mardel Stream of Churdan, Iowa and his son: Larry Thomsen of Jefferson, Iowa.
Adelbert, or “Deb” as known to family and friends, was born January 22, 1912 in Saunders County, Nebraska to William and Mary (Lorenzen) Thomsen. He attended country school and started farming with his family at a young age. Deb was united in marriage to Verna Margaret Buchmiller on August 5th, 1939. They began farming a family farm in Saunders County, Nebraska and moved to Greene County, Iowa in 1952 and began farming and established the first Chicken Confinement-Laying Facility in Greene County, known as Planeview Farm, located east of Jefferson. Deb supplied many fresh eggs to people in the community. Deb and Verna raised their 2 children, Mardel Jane and Larry Dean Thomsen as they continued to farm until their retirement and move to Southfield Drive in Jefferson. Deb and Verna were married for 52 wonderful years until Verna’s death in 1991.
Deb was united in marriage with Martha Peterson on March 7th, 1995. They spent their years at Evergreen Ridge and finally at Long Term Care at Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, Iowa.
Deb was passionate about the farm, his family, his faith and enjoyed keeping track of the farming progress and weather throughout the years.
Deb is survived by his daughter, Mardel J. (Thomsen) Stream and her husband Meredith of Churdan; and his son, Larry D. Thomsen and his wife Pamela (Ott) of Jefferson. Grandchildren Michele (Stream) Madsen and her husband Dan of Albert City, IA, Mitch Stream and his wife Jill of Churdan, Tanner Thomsen and his friend Amy of Boone, William Thomsen and his wife Jamie of Lake View, IA, and Paige (Thomsen) Johnson and her husband Jake of Corwith, IA. Great-grandchildren: Mickenzie, Margaret “Masey”, Daniele, Nickalus, Mason, Emma, Broc, Madison, Jenna, and Sean. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary, a brother Howard Thomsen, wives Verna Margaret & Martha.
