Memorial Services for Becky North, 34, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at a later date at West Liberty Cemetery in Montezuma, Iowa.  Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, IA after 9:00 am Tuesday, November 4, 2008, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 

Memorials in Becky’s name are suggested to the P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter, the Rainbow Center or the National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Becky is survived by her parents:  Jim and Karen North of Jefferson, Iowa; her sisters:  Sara Weise (Dave) of West Des Moines, Iowa and Erica Morlan (Andy) of Johnston, Iowa.  Nieces and Nephew:  Megan, Lucy and Max Weise of West Des Moines, Iowa and Madison Morlan of Johnston, Iowa.

Rebecca Sue North was born October 2, 1974, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She grew up in Jefferson and attended Jefferson Scranton Community Schools. During her school years Becky was active in music, speech contests, 4-H, and her youth group and choir at the First United Methodist Church. She was a frequent babysitter at the church nursery and for families in the community. Her rendition of “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” and her children's sermons at church brought enjoyment to young and old alike. Becky received the American Citizenship Award from the Iowa State Bar Association when she graduated in 1993.

Becky moved to Des Moines in 1994. While there she was involved in the Rainbow Center and other mental health organizations. Becky used her gift of writing and enjoyed writing articles for their newsletter. 

Becky returned to Jefferson in 2003.  She mentored peers in a support group and formed many lasting friendships. She also worked part time at Genesis Development. Becky was a lifelong animal lover and volunteered for P.A.W.S. She was a frequent visitor at the animal shelter. Through the years she cared for many pets. Most recently she enjoyed caring for her beloved cat, Poe. Becky also enjoyed keeping track of the dogs and cats that belonged to her parents, sisters, and friends.

 Throughout Becky's life she was a strong advocate for people with mental illness and a helper to anyone in need. Her faith was a constant source of strength for her.

Becky died November 1, 2008, at her home. She was 34 years of age. She is survived by her parents, Jim and Karen North of Jefferson, her sisters Sara Weis (Dave) of West Des Moines, Erica Morlan (Andy) of Johnston, and many friends. Becky was the proud aunt of Megan, Lucy, Max and Madison.
