Funeral services for Corliss “Corky” Nyght, 84, of Grand Junction, will be 10:30am Saturday March 8, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Interment will be in the Junction Township Cemetery.
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Grand Junction after 1:00pm Friday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home in Grand Junction between 5:30 – 7:00pm Friday.
Corky was born on November 7, 1923, in Farnhamville, Iowa to Alvin and Ora Babcock Nyght. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in May 1943, was a veteran of WWII; served on the volunteer fire department, and a long time member of the American Legion. He met his future wife, Ruth Lohr, when both were employed at Swift and Company in Omaha. They were married on July 15, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple returned to Grand Junction in 1946 where they raised their family and lived for the remainder of their lives. Corky retired in May 1986 from the Greene County Medical Center after 20 years of service to the hospital.
Corliss “Corky” Nyght, 84, died Tuesday March 5, 2008 at Greene County Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, his brother Don, and twin sisters Mary Paul and Marilyn Perkins.
Survivors include two sons: Merlyn and Carol Nyght of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Ron and Donna Nyght of Shawnee, Kansas; two daughters: Beverly and Tim Thornton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Kathy and Jim Pantenburg of Ames, Iowa: eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grand Junction Fire and Rescue or the Grand Junction First United Methodist Church.
