Mass of Christian Burial for Doris Gillespie, 89, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 am Friday, October 17, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Iowa.  Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, IA after 3:00 pm Thursday, October 16, 2008, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. 

Doris is survived by her daughter:  Ann Day of Grand Junction, Iowa; her son:  Mark Gillespie of Newton, Iowa; and her brother:  Dean Bortz of Jefferson, Iowa.

Doris Loraine Bortz Gillespie, 89, died October 13, 2008 at Regency Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Jefferson, Iowa.  Preceding her in death was her husband Ron.

Survivors include two children:  Ann Marie Day of Grand Junction, Iowa and Mark David Gillespie of Newton, Iowa; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother Dean Bortz of Jefferson, Iowa.

Doris was born on the family farm near Farlin, Iowa on July 19, 1919.  She graduated from Jefferson Community High School and Cosmetology College afterward.  After marrying Ron in 1954 they opened Ron-Do Beauty Salon which operated in several Jefferson locations until their retirement in the late 1980’s.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am on Friday, October 17, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson, Iowa with a graveside service immediately following at Jefferson Cemetery.  A luncheon follows the graveside service at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center.  Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa after 3:00 pm Thursday October 16, 2008 with the family present to greet friends between 6:00pm and 8:00 pm with a vigil service at 7:00 pm.
