Donald H. Jorgensen
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 5:00pm Monday, where the family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00pm Monday.
Donald Harry Jorgensen was born July 29, 1924 in Wichita, Iowa to parents Harry Pete and Elva Bliss (Cook) Jorgensen. Don passed away on March 20, 2008 at the age of 83. One of seven children, Donald grew up in rural Guthrie Center, Iowa on the family farm. He attended school at Victory Township #8 and helped with the family farming operation. On March 14, 1948 Don married Vivian HaVonne Sneller of Yale, Iowa at the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. To this union 3 children were born. Don and Vivian farmed the family farm side by side with their children. His love for farming found him being actively involved with the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Guthrie County Pork Producers. Don also worked full time for the Guthrie County Secondary Roads Department operating a road maintainer while still farming full time. In 1981, Don and Vivian moved from the farm to a home in Guthrie Center. Vivian passed away on November 1, 1986 after 38 years of marriage. In 1990, Don moved to Jefferson, Iowa and married Darlene Whitver of Jefferson. Darlene passed away in 1997. In July of 2007, Don moved into the Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson. He resided there with his special friend and companion, Flossie Ure and was still actively involved with the family farm with his daughter and son in law. Don loved to travel and sightsee, driving wherever the roads would let him go. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, dancing, and his grandchildren. Don was a member of the Central Christian Church of Jefferson. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian, wife Darlene, sister and brother- in- law, Marilyn and Howard Phillips; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Wilma Short; and sister-in-law, Colleen Jorgensen. Don is survived by daughters and sons- in- law, Janis and Paul Finnegan, Guthrie Center, Iowa; Cindy and Robert Goble, Shoreview, Minnesota; son and daughter- in- law, Marlon and Christine Jorgensen, Mexico, Missouri; grandchildren, Christopher; Jennifer and husband Ken; James and wife Allison; Justine and fiancé Michael; Rebecca and Garret; great- grandchildren, Lucas, Sarah, and Kaden; brothers, Dick and wife, Doris Jorgensen, Guthrie Center, Iowa; Lester and wife, Lorraine Jorgensen, Pahrump, Nevada; brother, Ken Jorgensen, Mason City, Iowa and sister, Irene and husband Mel Ham, Luling, Louisiana; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his special friend and companion, Flossie Ure, Jefferson, Iowa and many friends. |
