Florence K. Matzen
Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 9:00am Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Survivors include daughter Barb Shriver of Jefferson, Iowa and son: Gerald Matzen of Ames, Iowa. Florence “Teddy” K. Matzen, daughter of Frank and Daisy (Stormer) Whitecotton, was born April 17, 1913 in Morton, IL. As a child she moved to Iowa with her family, where she attended country school through the eighth grade. On January 4, 1938, Florence was united in marriage to Lawrence Matzen in Mason City, Iowa. They were the parents of two children, Gerald and Barbara (Shriver). Florence and Lawrence made their life together in Jefferson, Iowa. Florence moved to Regency Park Nursing Facility in 2003. Florence was employed at Krieger’s Greenhouse, Franklin Manufacturing, Deal’s Orchard as well as a homemaker. She was an active member of the Central Christian Church. She enjoyed her flower gardens and bird watching throughout her life. Florence Matzen died July 19, 2008 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 95 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; 5 brothers, 2 sisters, and her husband, Lawrence who died in 1995. Survivors include her son, Gerald of Ames, IA; daughter Barb and partner Kenneth of Jefferson, IA; 9 grandchildren: Tim, Curtis, Jody, Starlene, Kelly, Connie, Kathy, Michael and Deana; many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. |
